The Play
A fast-paced, hilarious farce, Bullshot Crummond spoofs the British pulp hero, Bulldog Drummond, detective, adventurer, early prototype for James Bond and subject of a series of movies and novels popular from the 1920s to the 1940s. The dashing Captain Bullshot Crummond - WWI ace fighter pilot, Olympic athlete, racing driver, part-time sleuth and all round spiffing chap - must save the world from the dastardly Count Otto van Bruno, his wartime adversary. And, of course, win the heart of a lovely young lady. Stylistically similar the currently popular adventure-comedy, The 39 Steps, Bullshot Crummond derives humor from its audacious and occasionally ridiculous attempts to transpose to the stage special effects normally reserved for the motion picture screen -- plane crashes, car chases, icy mountain cliffhangers and sword fights.
