The Play
Tony Award winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, who would write the scores for Ragtime and Seussical, exploded on the musical theatre scene in 1988 with their first off-Broadway show, Lucky Stiff, a zany, offbeat, very funny murder mystery farce complete with slamming doors, mistaken identities, six million dollars in diamonds, and a corpse in a wheelchair. It won the prestigious Richard Rodgers Production Award for new musicals. Mild-mannered shoe clerk Harry Witherspoon stands to inherit six million dollars if he can successfully take the corpse of his late uncle on vacation to Monte Carlo for a week, but he isn't the only one who wants the money.
